Physympoiesis
„Sympoiesis is a simple word; it means ›making-with‹. Nothing makes itself; nothing is really autopoietic or self-organizing.“ (cf. Donna Haraway’s Staying with the Trouble, Making Kin in the Chthulucene)
This prototype of the physympoiesis assemblage represents a light labyrinth with which machine actors attempt to get in contact with the biological actor slime mold. An attempt was made to narrate a form of transformation process in order to connect with the non-human matter and make it tangible. Consequently, incubation should not be perceived merely as a state of rest, but as a mechanism of communication with more-than-human rhytmic matter. Since slime mold responds differently to various colors, some qualities of the diagram can be incorporated into the labyrinth with different light colors. In a next step, another machine actor examines the growth of the slime mold, which in turn is translated into a diagrammatic representation. This translation into an image thus represents a kind of metaphorical visualization of the biological unconciousness of the slime mold (cf. neurologist Dandor Ferenczi).
