The Noosphere for
AI-Design-Worlds
The exhibition and communication objects described above were presented during the exhibition. However, the website was designed as an information platform for use before and after the festival. The aim was to enable website viewers to explore additional research findings, evaluation results, and examples.
The navigation bar categories were: AI tools, AI experiment, AI & art, AI & literature, AI & film, the specific content of the master thesis, and the design process. The philosophical term “the noosphere” was selected as the title and domain name of the website. This term was coined by anthropologist and philosopher Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (cf. Krüger, 2015, p. 60); however, this work relied on the interpretation of the term by media theorist Marshall McLuhan. McLuhan defined the “noosphere” as a “cosmic membrane that has been snapped round the globe” (McLuhan, 2002, p.32). In the context of the website, this definition suggested an idea of a future world with a global AI-linked network that creates a future sphere for the human mind. The website was intended as a small representation of such a sphere, in which users could collect information about AI and design and exchange this information with others.
